Reporting In

Posted on Wed May 30th, 2018 @ 5:47am by Lieutenant JG Shirii Zh'vilran & Commander Venik

Mission: Prologue: Starting A New Life
Location: Ready Room

Shirii had just enough time to swing by her new quarters and stow her gear before heading to the bridge. If it was up to her, she would rather be in engineering taking an inventory of the ships systems. As it was, she had heard the Captain was a Vulcan and Vulcans were not known for their patience on Andoria. The turbolift came to a halt and the doors opened. The young Andorian took her hand off the control handle and stepped onto the bridge and across to conference room. She stopped just outside the ready room doors and took a moment to straighten her uniform; brushing out a wrinkle in her skirt before pressing the door chime.

"Come." A emotionless voice said over the intercom.

She stepped inside and snapped to attention. She watched the Vulcan for what seemed like an eternity as she stood and waited. "Lieutenant junior grade Shirii Zh'vilran reporting aboard as ordered, Sir."

Looking up from the PADD that he was looking at. Noticing the Andorian standing there he set it down. "At ease Lieutenant."

Shirii loosened her posture but continued to stand her hand out stretched to offer the PADD with her transfer orders.

"If you would prefer, you may take a seat." Venik said to the officer in the red uniform. Reaching for a PADD, he switched the screen to her profile.

With a curt nod she sat in the seat across from Venik. "Thank you sir." she couldn't help but feel a little uneasy sitting there waiting for the captain to speak. Vulcans and her people had never had a 'warm' relationship as the pink skins would call it. Even now, a hundred years after the Federation was founded, relations between Vulcan and Andoria were lukewarm at best.

Looking up from her file, "You're previous CO talks very highly of you Lieutenant. Only three years out of Academy, and you are highly recommended among the Engineering candidates. I chose you, because of the recommendations given to me. We are going into an unknown area of space. That will provide very little resources. Will that be a problem?"

"You haven't seen limited resources until you have been placed in the middle of the Andorian Tundra in the stormy season and expected to make your way back to the city with nothing but a weeks worth of rations, a lantern and a spear. with the resources of a starship, I can build you a pleasure yacht out of scrap metal and jury rig a data monitor to fly it for you."

Raising an eyebrow, the Vulcan looked at the young woman. As a right of passage, a Vulcan male would go into the wilderness with nothing but the clothes on their back. He knew that proving the point would not bring her point to a logical conclusion. "You have a point there Lieutenant. Your abilities will be put to great use."

The Andorian nodded. "Give me a day and I'll have these engines purring like a Terran kitten." she said with a confidence that belied her training. "With a few tweaks to the reaction control chamber and the warp plasma manifolds, I should be able to raise our maximum cruising speed to 8.3; 8.5 with a little more on the fly management."

Raising an eyebrow, the Vulcan eyed the Andorian, "Intriguing. Increasing our cruising speed would greatly decrease our travel time to the Void. Inform me when you are prepared to start."

"It will also give us an edge in maneuvering over most over vessels we may encounter out there." The engineer added. "I can start as soon as I get to engineering. It's best to give the crew something to work on right out of the gates."

"That would be most efficient Lieutenant." Venik said with a nod. "Send me the final draft of your proposal and I will make it a priority."

"Understood sir. Is there anything else?"

"That will be all Lieutenant." Venik said bluntly and dryly.

"Aye Sir." she said as she rose to stand. "you will have the upgrades ready by the time we make way." the Young Andorian said. before turning and making her exit.

End.
