Mission:
Prologue: Starting A New Life
Location: Main Sickbay
Timeline: 1345 Hours
Yiggtissi watched a coupe of technicians finished delivering a couple of crates to sickbay. They were a bit late but not everyone was as punctual as he liked to be. He sat at his desk going over the crew manifest, scheduling physicals for those that appeared to need them and sifting through various files of data from his own massive medical catalog. There was enough information in there to fill up several databases. It was all neatly arranged into main sections with sub-sections. Almost a career's worth of medical data.
He watched as a young human girl strode in through the doors carrying a PADD who looked a it out of sorts. She was wearing the typical blue dress that barely covered her backside. Her normally long blonde hair was tucked away neatly on the back of her head into a small bun with golden strands hanging on each side of her face. Yiggtissi didn't find her terribly attractive but he didn't find most human's to be easy on the eyes. Most Saurians shared the same sentiment.
As he changed out the bright blue data storage device for a deep green one, he heard a small knock against the clear window of his office.
"Good afternoon Doctor," She began, "Ensign Addison Morey reporting for duty sir."
The doctor shot her a toothy grin and motioned for her to come as he finished up his duty shift roster. He glanced at his schedule and was surprised. He hadn't expected his head nurse to report in until sometime in the following day.
"Please." He motioned for her to sit in the blue and black chair in front of his desk. "It is a pleasure to meet you ensign. I wasn't expecting you until mid-day tomorrow."
Of course, he wasn't complaining. He would need all the help he could get as he prepared for the long duration of their mission. It could be months before they saw another star base so having the correct amount of medical supplies on board was crucial.
"Believe me, I was just as surprised as you." She handed over her Starfleet issued PADD which held her current orders. "The transport from Earth was quicker than I thought."
She shifted in her seat as an awkward silence fell over the room.
"So, do you have a family sir?"
Yiggtissi stopped his work and sat up straight.
"Yes I do. I have a wife and a daughter on Sauria." He thought for a second. "And of course my father and mother are on Sauria as well. What about yourself?"
"Oh yes sir," She said smiling, "My parents live in Orgeon on Earth. My mother is a nurse practitioner and my father works for Yoydyne Propulsion Systems. He is only home about two weeks a month. Building star ships is a busy job i guess."
Yiggtissi remembered visiting the Yoyodyne Production Facility at the San Francisco Fleet Yards on a break while at the academy. It was an impressive complex. Of course they weren't allowed to see of it due to a unknown class of ship being built in the production bay.
"I remember visiting that complex. It was quite impressive." Yiggtissi folded his arms and leaned against the desk. "Any siblings?"
She scooted back in her chair and crossed her legs. "Oh goodness yes. I have four older brothers. Brandon, Trevor, Colin, and Ethan." She counted them on her fingers as he called them off one by one.
"All four of them serve in Starfleet as well. They tend to be pretty over protective of me." She laughed
Yiggtissi smiled. "I have three older brothers myself. Two of them serve in the Saurian Security Force and one is a master distiller's apprentice for our uncle's brandy distillery."
"Distillery?" She asked. Her eyes widened a bit. "Your family makes Saurian Brandy? I love that stuff. It doesn't love me though."
Yiggtssi could never understand human's fascination with the drink and their blatant disregard of why the drink was invented centuries ago. Saurians used the drink as a very religious practice and it was a deeply ceremonial beverage. When they did drink it, it was an elaborate preparation as it required a clean white cloth to accompany the drink for wiping the mouth between sips while praying to the First Ones. The First Ones were considered the creators of the Saurian race and the first sip of water they drank from the planet that they named Lyaksti’kton, tasted similar to what humans called Saurian Brandy.
"My uncle operates one of the largest distilleries on Sauria. My father is a scientist at the Saurian Science Academy and my mother is a retired law enforcement technician." He stated with pride.
Living together, as most Saurian families did, he could not have known a better upbringing than having his his parents and grandparents under one roof. Instead of four eyes keeping his brothers bullying at bay, he had eight. He sat up straight once again. He swiped a PADD from his desk and handed it across to the young woman who leaned in to reach it.
"Well Ensign Morey, here are the medical supplies that have come aboard since my arrival. I will need you to carefully inventory them and log them in as received. We will have a long time to socialize with one another."
She nodded and she was gone as fast as she had arrived. Yiggtissi read over her file and noticed her high marks from the academy. He was happy to have such a young and vibrant officer in charge of his nurses. Fresh from the academy, she was untested so that would be the real test.
