Mission: Prologue: Starting A New Life
Location: Starbase 17
Timeline: MD01 - 1100 Hours

The gold clad Commander walked down the corridor. He looked at a report that was being displayed on the PADD He quickly, but precisely signed the report and sent it. He had been stationed on Starbase 17 for the last seven months while his new command, the USS Wasp, was getting finished. The man looked up briefly and walked into an office, where his name, Commander Venik, printed on the plaque next to the door. His Yeoman sat at a small desk that was in the outer office.

She looked up from her computer, "Commander. I have those reports that you asked for, and the updated roster." Crewman April Ronaldson said as she handed him another PADD.

“Thank you Yeoman.” The tall man said as he walked into an inner door which lead to his temporary office in the Starbase. He had been there for a few months so he had placed som Vulcan artifacts. In the center back wall sat a desk with a computer and a chair. To the right was a sitting area with a couch and a couple chairs, and to the left was the food synthesizer, and an eating area. He moved to the desk and set the PADDs down.

Moving over to the closet, he pulled out the green wraparound that Commanding Officers were allowed to wear. He had worn it for the first time his first week as the future CO of the Wasp. He was given the command three months ago and was given an office on the Starbase to work on filling his roster, and get started on CO paperwork. The Wasp was getting finished up at this Starbase, and Venik had been on it many times to inspect it. Pulling the gold uniform over his head, he stood there for a second and let the warm air touch his bare chest, stomach and back. He scratched his stomach as he threw his gold uniform in the dirty area and closed the lid. Walking over to his desk he pulled his arms through the sleeves of the green uniform and walked over to his desk as the comm panel on the desk whistled. The comm panel on the desk whistled, he touched the button to answer, “Commander Venik.”

“Commander, you're next inspection is scheduled for this afternoon at 1400 hours.” The Yeoman said over the speaker.

“Acknowledged. Send me the progress reports by 1300.”

“Yes sir.”

Venik started scrolling through applications for his First Officer. There were all kinds of choices. Humans, Vulcans, Andorians, Tellarites, Saurians, so many to pick from. Being one of the newest Constitution class starships, everyone wanted to be on it. He knew logic would lead him to picking the right one.

There was a chime at the door and it opened to his Yeoman, who carried a tray with a pot of coffee and a couple coffee mugs. “The galley sent over fresh coffee sir.”

“Thank you Yeoman.” Venik said with his emotionless voice. Most Vulcan’s didn’t enjoy coffee, but Venik developed a liking for it while at the Academy. He started to look over reports on his clipboard and computer. Looking up at the clock 1230 hours. Closing and locking all of his screens, he stood up and tugged at his uniform. As he walked out the door, he looked at the Yeoman still sitting at her desk. “Yeoman, if anyone comes looking for me make an appointment.”

“Yes sir.”

The Vulcan walked down the corridor and towards the nearest turbolift. He passes many other starbase personnel who nodded at him. We walked with determination and a clipboard under his arm. He pushed the button on the wall, summoning the turbolift.

“Commander Venik!” He heard behind him. Turning around, he noticed a young Tellarite woman walking towards him. He noticed by her bare red sleeve, that she was either an enlisted personal, or an ensign. “Ensign Travla, Engineering Officer.”

The Vulcan man raised an eyebrow. He had read her profile. She had put in for a transfer to the Wasp as the Assistant Chief Engineer. He had yet to pick someone to fill that position. He hadn’t picked a Chief Engineer yet, so he thought it would be illogical to pick an Assistant Chief for the engineering department. “Yes, Ensign. I have read your profile. You are a strong candidate, for being so young. Your service record and your transcripts at the Academy are quite outstanding.”

“Thank you sir.” The Tellarite woman said with a slight smile. “Sir. I was wondering if you have picked out a Chief Engineer or an Assistant Chief Engineer.”

Raising an eyebrow, Venik looked at her, “I have narrowed down my final candidates. You are among them.”

A slight smile came across the Tellarite’s face. She looked up at his, “Thank you sir. I look forward to your answer.” she snapped to attention and walked away.

The turbolift opened and Venik turned around to walk in. He grabbed the handle and ordered the lift to ops, where the Captain’s office was. Pulling the clipboard out from under his arm he pulled up the Ensign’s file and made a note on it. Within a few minutes the doors opened with a hiss, revealing the bustling operations center. He made his way through the control center and towards the COs office. He rang the chime, and shortly after the Admirals voice summoned him in from the intercom. “You requested to see me Admiral?” He said as he promptly entered the large office.

“Commander, yes. Please take a seat.” The grey haired man said. Walking over, the Vulcan took a seat in front of the Admiral. “It looks like everything is going as planned with the Wasp. She is almost ready to be taken on her maiden voyage. We are just waiting for your senior staff choices.”

“I am down to the finalists.” The Vulcan said in a matter-of-fact tone. Handing is clipboard to the Admiral, “Here is my list. I find that these officers are most efficient.”

The Admiral took the Clipboard from the Vulcan and started looking at the list of names, “I recognise a few of these names. Great officers.”

“On the next page. You will see my final approved enlisted personnel and junior officers.”

Flipping the page, the French Admiral nodded, “Good. I will get these orders in right away. Your approved list from last month are already here. They are being transferred over as we speak.”

“Good. I will be moving my stuff over today. My quarters are all but moved over. My office is all that remains.” Venik said with a blank expression.

“Alright, Commander. If you need anything please let me know. I will have my inspection tomorrow at 0700.”

“Yes Admiral.” The Vulcan stood, “I will prepare the ship for your arrival.”

“You are dismissed Commander.”

With a nod, the Vulcan turned and left the Admiral’s office. Walking to the nearest intercom, he activated it and set the channel for his Yeoman’s desk, “Venik to Yeoman Ronaldson.”

“Go ahead Commander.” She said over the intercom.

“Yeoman, I need you to have a quartermaster to finish packing my office and quarters. I am heading to the ship.”

“Aye sir. The are called and are on their way.”

“Thank you. Venik out.” Closing the channel, he turned and started to walk towards the nearest transporter room.
